I don’t know which is worse:

The debt.

The mistake I made wasting a year choosing the wrong lousy, hateful, hateful program/college.

My hopes being dashed for a second career (at fifty) in library work.

(The first two really suck. The second, unforgivable, on top of sucking. The latter I can, and will, remedy.)

Wow, another teacher fired! This is beginning to be really worrisome! If this keeps happening and students revolt openly they will end up cancelling the LIT program at Seneca making our diploma truly worthless. It’s depressing how much debt I am in right now because of this program and nothing came of it! (sigh)

Sadly/madly familiar. Though it sounds like they’re a lot smarter not putting up with the same shit for as long as we did, and we put up with a helluva lot.

Sadder/madder still? Earnestly seeking and finding no employ after putting up with it all.

And a word from the Front: Report from a current Seneca student

“Nothing has changed at Seneca – really nothing at all. The exact same complaints. We too had a prof that couldn’t teach that the students got fired and Delia had to take over the course half way through the semester – and get this….5 guys did not get a placement the first placement round! Accelerated students said the program isn’t worth the cost of tuition – one guy even openly complained in class and left the program – (no one is sure weather he was thrown out or if he left). Many people left after second semester complaining that this was not for them or they would rather take the course on-line.”

Hmmmmm . . . sound familiar?

And now a word from an Algonquin grad seeking employ:

“The program at Algonquin boasts a 100% employment rate – however, they don’t actually specify *what* these grads are employed at. Quelle suprise! A good friend of mine put in several years at (cough) WalMart, while his girlfriend worked at (cough) Coutt’s Cataloguing. Now they are both at Coutt’s. While I think both these places are evil, at least one of them is relevant to the field.

Others in my class were able to get in with the government because they had french and/or other complimentary degrees. The rest of us struggled to find work, while some either took jobs outside the library/information realm or decided to take another stab at academia in other fields altogether. I had neither the money/nor inclination to attempt that last one. I always like the idea of school – but find the reality lacking.”

Applying to three tech job postings this week – two require 2 & 5 year previous library work experience, minimum. The other is part-time cataloguing at a processing centre. Good luck hopefuls!
